Summer Activities
The Summer play sessions project aims to provide craft based make and take activities inspired by the collections, themes and stories at Chepstow Museum, Abergavenny Museum and Castle, Caldicot Castle, Old Station, Tintern and Shire Hall, Monmouth.
The project will take place over 2 weeks: week commencing 8th August and week commencing 22nd August and will provide 10 separate sessions focusing on the themes of Medieval mayhem and Playtime through the ages.
Medieval Mayhem
Join us for some Medieval Mayhem this Summer at our MonLife Museums & Attractions.
We have Medieval Objects for you to explore and free craft activities to make and take away, including clay tiles and hobby horses. Suitable for ages 5-11.
Sessions run 11am-3pm at:
- Shire Hall – Monday 8th August
- Caldicot Castle – Tuesday 9th August.
- Old Station Tintern – Wednesday 10th August.
- Chepstow Drill Hall – Thursday 11th August.
- Abergavenny Museum & Castle Friday 12th August
No need to book but children must be accompanied by an adult.
Toys and Games from the Past
Join us and have some fun with Toys and Games from the past this Summer.
There will be a range of toys and games for the kids to get their hand on: including the cup and ball game, thaumatropes and peg dolls. Suitable for ages 5-11.

Little Explorer’s Club Nature Trail
This August & September let your children become Little Explorer’s every Thursday & Saturday with a one hour, FREE, exploration session around Caldicot Castle Country Park. Tickets MUST be booked in advance (Adults do not need to book).
On the nature trail there’ll be bug hunting, bird & wildlife spotting, exploring and bush tucker talk.
- Each child will be provided with a Little Explorer’s Club gilet and hat, and a bag with explorer’s equipment (all returnable at the end of the session)
- Each child will receive a printed tick sheet for bugs, birds and wildlife to record what they have seen and to take away.
- At the end of each session, each child will receive a personalised ‘Summer Of Fun Little Explorer’s Club’ certificate of participation and a 3D bug sticker sheet to take away as mementos.
- Bug hunting, bird and wildlife spotting, exploring, bush tucker talk, nature trails
- Supervised by one CCCP staff member
- Maximum group size 10 children
- Suitable for ages 3-7, each child must be accompanied by an adult
- 1-hour session in Caldicot Castle Country Park
- Limited Spaces Available
Thursdays starting from 4th August until 29th September. Sessions 10:00-11:00 and 12:00-13:00
Saturdays starting from 6th August until 25th September. Sessions 10:00-11:00
